ARTIST STATEMENT

I was born an artist. There is no other word to describe what I do. But it seems to me the word itself imposes some limits (due to myths and stereotyping) that I wish to dissolve, blur, or break through.

My goal is to integrate my personal world view within the framework of creative references.

My art has changed dramatically through the years, just as I have, just as our world. Throughout these changes freedom of thought is central to my art and practice.

My role is to create things. I have created a personal eco-system that sustains me, protects my creativity, and enable me reach many people in subtle ways.

My role is to experience our world, share what I see, and communicate how I feel. I stay very current in recording my perceptions and exploring mediums, both old and new, to learn how best to reveal them.

I am in motion and wish to remain open so as to respond directly to new discoveries and views. To anchor myself, I have created an armature to build upon. I have researched the historic formats of writing and, in 2000, I began building a library filled with literary formats.

Each written format is an opportunity to be expanded further from its historic placement. The library is broken down into projects with themes that offer a variety of systems to relate to our world.

The list of art goals below presents vehicles of exploration that enables me to express myself with a keen sense of eagerness, curiosity, and purpose.

NOTE:
I admire Hildegard Von Bingham for her immense amount of art and incredible freedom of thought.
I admire Frieda Kahlo for her outpouring of emotion and truth.
I admire Martha Graham for her unbending vision, constant risk taking, and unending determination.
And many others...
