FALL 2008 (I am excited for fall!)

My art is about nature--what I feel is left of it-- and the potential of human nature to recover our loss. I have been experimenting with different ways to express this, both in choices of medium and degrees of directness. I am finishing up 3 years of studies ( "a moment in my life" as my husband says) in fiber and agriculture, chemistry and color, and the green movement. I have also been experimenting with ways to connect many points so that they resonate strongly in unison.

EXHIBITION / INSTALLATION
Sunday, October 5th is the opening of a group show "Heating up", about our changing world, at the Evanston Art Center. I was given a room to create an installation. I have been working on this since December 2007 and stretched some boundaries into an unknown creative area that is offering me a new direction for my art. Appropiately, the installation is titled: FOUND

PROJECT / RED TREES: scroll

I finished the Red Trees Scroll in an edition of nine. Shroud fabric, linen, bamboo, a Mongolian button and ink. The imagery inside comes from my sketchbook.

PROJECT /100 TEARS: part 2

The disturbing traits of humanity carved in bronze is something to address and pass through to gain more understanding of our world. I am finishing up my writing that describes the 100 disturbing truths of humanity. Needless to say, this is been a grueling task that takes its toll on me, one that I turn away from often. In many ways it feels like a mission of record keeping so that these traits become a thing of our past. Someday the complete saga of part 2 will appear on my site.

DRAWING

This year I created 5 Buddha works on paper that represent stages (my interpretation) that many go through over and over: birth, challenge and absurdity, wisdom, death, return. I did this as a form of permission so that my charcoal works can move to a rougher voice of protest.
View selected works on paper.

PAINTING

In 2007 I was able to paint the secrets on my mind; scenes from an opera. I continue with this direction. View paintings here.
